Acqua Alta

Venice, Italy, October 5, 2010. Acqua alta (high waters) is the term used in Veneto for the exceptional tide peaks that occur periodically in the northern Adriatic sea. The peaks reach their maximum in the Venetian Lagoon, where they cause partial flooding of Venice flooding also occurs elsewhere around the northern Adriatic, but much less often and to a lesser degree. The phenomenon occurs mainly between autumn and spring, when the astronomical tides are reinforced by the prevailing seasonal winds which hamper the usual reflux.

About this blog

Photo Op: short for photo opportunity, originally referred to an opportunity to take a memorable and effective photograph of a politician, a celebrity, or a notable event. The term has acquired a negative connotation, referring to a carefully planned pseudo-event, or a non-event that often masquerades as news. This blog is called "Photo Op" and I hope this is where the resemblance to the above definition ends.
