Kaparot

An ultra-Orthodox Jew swings a chicken, later to be slaughtered, over the head of another as part of the Kaparot ritual, ahead of the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, also known as Day of Atonement, in the neighborhood of Mea Shearim in Jerusalem, on September 15, 2010. Kaparot is a ritual connected to Yom Kippur, where chickens are slaughtered as a symbolic gesture of atonement, it is believed that one transfers one's sins from the past year into the chicken.

About this blog

Photo Op: short for photo opportunity, originally referred to an opportunity to take a memorable and effective photograph of a politician, a celebrity, or a notable event. The term has acquired a negative connotation, referring to a carefully planned pseudo-event, or a non-event that often masquerades as news. This blog is called "Photo Op" and I hope this is where the resemblance to the above definition ends.
