Curbing water theft near Hebron

Israeli border police officers stand guard as construction vehicles destroy a man-made reservoir on a Palestinian farm near the West Bank city of Hebron, on 14 July 2010. According to a spokesperson for Israel's Civil Administration, the reservoir was destroyed as part of a routine law enforcement operation aimed at curbing the theft of water by Palestinians from surrounding communities. The phenomenon, according to Israel Water Authority, has already reached the proportions of a serious issue, Palestinians are connecting illegally to the supply lines of Mekorot and are causing a shortage in Hebron, Kiryat Arba, Yatta, and the surrounding villages. Water theft also costs the state of Israel millions of shekels every year.

About this blog

Photo Op: short for photo opportunity, originally referred to an opportunity to take a memorable and effective photograph of a politician, a celebrity, or a notable event. The term has acquired a negative connotation, referring to a carefully planned pseudo-event, or a non-event that often masquerades as news. This blog is called "Photo Op" and I hope this is where the resemblance to the above definition ends.
